Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is teaming up with the Texas Workforce Solutions networks and military bases to help service members who have recently left the military. We know that it can be tough to explain military skills to civilians, find jobs, finish college programs or get the right licenses or certifications for jobs. For more information, visit texasoperationwelcomehome.portal.texas.gov.

We Hire Vets logo

The We Hire Vets program recognizes Texas employers for their commitment to hiring veterans.

Does your company love veterans? Are at least 10% of your employees veterans? If so, your company is eligible to receive a “We Hire Vets” decal to display on your storefront and a digital decal to put on your website.

Let us know about an amazing employer that hires veterans:

The Military Family Support Program helps military spouses find jobs and get ready for interviews. The program can help you search for jobs, find out what skills employers are looking for and learn about the job market. It can also help you write a résumé.

Military spouses might be able to get training and certification for specific jobs if funding is available. Right now, there are eight military bases in the state that have signed agreements to take part in the Military Family Support Program. The program has been successful in connecting military spouses with local business leaders, peers and career development programs.

The following Boards and military bases currently take part in the Military Family Support Program:

  • Alamo—Joint Base San Antonio
  • Central Texas—US Army, Fort Cavazos
  • Borderplex—US Army, Fort Bliss
  • West Central Texas—Dyess Air Force Base
  • Concho Valley—Goodfellow Air Force Base
  • North Texas—Sheppard Air Force Base
  • Middle Rio Grande—Laughlin Air Force Base
  • Coastal Bend—Kingsville and Corpus Christi Naval Air Stations

The Welcome Home Texas Transition Alliance is a group of people who meet twice a year to talk about how to help veterans transition back to civilian life. They share their ideas and learn from each other's programs. The goal is to work together and improve job opportunities for veterans.

The groups include people from TWC, TVLP, TVC, military transition centers, garrison/base commanders, employers, employer associations, designated Boards and Workforce Solutions offices.

If you want to join the next Texas Transition Alliance meeting, contact Bob Gear at 512-936-6024 or email him at bobby.gearjr@twc.texas.gov. The next meeting is planned for December 12 to 14, 2023, at Texas A&M, Kingsville, TX.
