AUSTIN - The Denison Development Alliance (DDA), the Sherman Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and Workforce Solutions Texoma (Texoma) have partnered for the Texoma High Demand Job Training. The training is made possible using a $100,000 High Demand Job Training grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) awarded to Texoma who will leverage matching funds from DDA and SEDC of $50,000 and $50,000 respectively to fund training.

“These grants support strong partnerships between economic development corporations, Workforce Solutions, and education partners to enhance high-demand education and job training solutions that help students succeed in high-demand industries,” said TWC Chairman Andres Alcantar. “We are pleased to make this investment to help build industry-aligned programs that are in high demand in this region.”

The Texoma High Demand Job Training grant will facilitate purchasing the equipment needed to provide hands on training for the high demand occupation of team assemblers. Two levels of certification will be provided upon successful completion of the training program, Manufacturing Technician I and II. The increased capacity is being designed to serve both students from two local independent school districts as well as individuals who are attending Grayson College and is expected to begin serving students in the fall of 2017 with the goal of training and certifying 40 – 60 students per year thereafter.

Through the High-Demand Job Training Program, local workforce development boards can apply for funds from TWC to be matched by local economic development corporations, while funds are available. For more on this training program, businesses are encouraged to contact their local Workforce Solutions office or visit the High-Demand Job Training Program webpage.
