TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION
101 E. 15TH STREET, ROOM 630
AUSTIN, TEXAS 78778-0001
Dear Texas Employer,
Texas is a great place to do business. More Fortune 500 companies are now based in Texas than any other state in the country. In addition, we have more than our share of successful entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Governor Perry and our Texas legislative leaders have put policies in place to encourage economic development and job creation while keeping our fiscal house in order. Our state taxes remain low, and our state leaders have kept spending increases within the range of inflation plus population growth in recent years.
As the Commissioner Representing Employers at the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), I am your appointed representative at TWC. Our agency has responsibility for unemployment insurance and other workforce development programs.
As your Employer Commissioner, my priorities are to help establish an effective, employer-driven workforce development system and to provide you and other Texas employers direct information and assistance. I also am your advocate on contested unemployment compensation and wage claim cases appealed to the Commission.
I believe Especially for Texas Employers provides valuable information on workplace issues, ranging from understanding the agency and the law, to taxes and the appeal process, all the way to the most important state and federal employment law issues. The A to Z of Personnel Policies will assist employers in understanding the importance of having clear written policies for their employees. Both books have been extensively updated and rewritten in an effort to bring you the kind of help and information you need, and which you as a taxpayer deserve.
Your state and federal unemployment tax dollars are the primary funding mechanism for the unemployment insurance system, as well as for the entire range of programs dealing with job training and workforce development. You should not have to pay more unemployment taxes than necessary, and what you learn from these publications may help you keep your unemployment compensation taxes low.
My staff and I are here to help you with any problem you cannot solve at the local or regional level. I invite you to call us toll-free at 1-800-832-9394.
Sincerely,
Esperanza "Hope" Andrade
Commissioner Representing Employers
