AUSTIN ⎯ A Manufacturing Consortium, consisting of 3M Co., Applied Materials, Athena Manufacturing, KoMiCo Technology, and TASUS Texas Corp. has partnered with Austin Community College (ACC) to provide job training using a $425,797 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The grant will benefit workers in the Capital and Rural Capital areas of Texas.

“We are pleased to present this grant to area manufacturers and Austin Community College, which will support the high-demand manufacturing industry in the Austin, Georgetown and Round Rock area,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. “This partnership focuses on customized technical training that will help increase productivity and efficiency and crate new job opportunities across Central Texas.”

This grant will be used to provide customized training for 408 new and incumbent workers with focused instruction in electronics, blueprint, pneumatics and robotics. Trainees will include maintenance technicians, assemblers, fabricators, process engineers, CNC programmers and operators. Upon completion of training, the workers will receive an average wage of $20.43.

Since its inception in 1996, the Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 342,428 jobs throughout Texas. The grants have assisted 4,238 employers with their customized training needs. The Legislature allocated $48.5 million to the Skills Development Fund for the 2016-17 biennium.
