AUSTIN ⎯ On Wednesday, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) partnered with the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities, Workforce Solutions Capital Area, Austin Human Resource Management Association, and the Society for Human Resource Management, to provide a free Benefits of Hiring People with Disabilities Business Forum for Texas employers. This forum provided panels on best practices on hiring people with disabilities, workforce development strategies, and assistive technology tools and accommodations to employers from around the state.

“Texas employers recognize that Texas has a large, educated workforce, and this includes individuals with disabilities,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Employers Ruth R. Hughs. “Hiring from this talent pool will not only give your company a competitive edge, but will make business practices more effective, resulting in an overall improvement of your work environment.”

As part of the Texas HireAbility Campaign, the forum helps raise awareness about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities and highlights the contributions of people with disabilities in the workforce. Texas’ diverse workforce is growing at a rapid rate, and we want to continue to provide employers with tools and resources needed to succeed, and hire the best talent available.

The Office of the Commissioner Representing Employers represents the Texas business community, furnishing a wide variety of service to employers including informational materials, employment law seminars and a quarterly newsletter. Employers may contact the employer commissioner’s office for information, advocacy and assistance with unemployment compensation and wage claim cases and other workplace concerns such as employee policy issues.
