Apprenticeship combines paid on-the-job training under the supervision of experienced journey workers with related classroom instruction. Most registered apprenticeship training programs last from three to five years as determined by industry standards.

The Apprenticeship program serves employers and job seekers by training workers for well-paying jobs with promising futures. Apprentices are full-time, paid employees who earn while they learn.
There are hundreds of apprenticeable occupations. The top occupations include able seaman, carpenter, chef, child care development specialist, construction craft laborer, dental assistant, electrician, elevator constructor, fire medic, law enforcement agent, over-the-road truck driver, pipefitter and more.
All apprenticeship training programs and apprentices must be registered with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship.
The Texas Workforce Commission, as authorized in Texas Education Code, Chapter 133, grants funds to local public educational institutions to support the costs of related classroom instruction in registered apprenticeship training programs. Local education agencies act as fiscal agents for registered apprenticeship training programs.
To qualify for funds, apprenticeship training programs and apprentices must be registered with the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship.
