Payment Options for Unemployment Insurance Tax

The following options are available to employers for paying quarterly unemployment tax liabilities and other tax related charges:

Special Note for Tax Accounts with Tax Lien, Judgement or Assessment Activity

Automated Clearing House (ACH) debit

The Texas Workforce Commission's Payment Online System is an electronic payment service. This free service enables employers to submit quarterly unemployment tax payments to TWC by using Automated Clearing House (ACH) debit. This means that employers who file their quarterly wage reports electronically no longer have to mail in their remittance to TWC to complete their quarterly filing and payment process.

To use this system, you must register for access to the Unemployment Tax Services system. During the quick and simple registration process, users will create a User ID and password that will be used each time they access the online system. TEXNET Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)

TWC Rule 815.109(d) (Texas Workforce Commission Rules adopted pursuant to the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act) requires employers paying $250,000 or more in tax liability in a state fiscal year to transfer current tax payments by EFT using the Texas Comptroller of Public Account’s TEXNET system (State of Texas Electronic Payment Network).  A taxpayer who will not meet the minimum threshold for mandatory EFT payments may voluntarily make payments by EFT.

Credit Card

Submit your quarterly unemployment tax payments using your American Express, Discover, MasterCard or Visa credit card. This means that employers who file their quarterly wage reports electronically no longer have to mail in their remittance to TWC to complete their quarterly filing and payment process. This online service is provided by Texas.gov, the official website of Texas. The price of this service includes funds that support the ongoing operations and enhancements of Texas.gov, which is provided by a third party in partnership with the State.

To use this service, new users must register for access to the Unemployment Tax Services system. During the quick and simple registration process, users will create a User ID and password that will be used each time they access the online system. Personal Check, Cashier's Check and Money Order

For all employers not required to pay using EFT, an ACH debit payment, credit card, personal check, cashiers check or money order are acceptable methods of payment for all unemployment insurance tax and related liabilities.

Make checks and money orders payable to "Texas Workforce Commission". Record the employer's TWC tax account number on the face of the check or money order to assure proper application of the payment.

Note: A check or money order accompanying an Employer's Quarterly Report must reflect the TWC account number. Checks or money orders submitted to pay other tax related liabilities (prior quarter tax, penalties, interest, tax lien, judgement or assessment, etc.) should also reflect the reason(s) for payment on the face of the instrument or be accompanied by correspondence with detailed payment instructions.

Cash

Cash is an accepted method of payment for quarterly tax liabilities and other tax related charges.

Cash payments may be hand delivered to a representative of the Tax Department at any of our local tax offices. A receipt will be issued when payment is made in cash to a Tax Department representative.

Special Note for Tax Accounts Secured by Tax Lien, Judgement, or Assessment

A release of a Tax Lien, Judgement, or Assessment may be obtained in 10 to 15 business days after payment by cashier's check, US Postal Money Order, or cash has been received by the agency.

A release of a Tax Lien, Judgement, or Assessment paid by personal check, business check or commercial money order takes approximately 35 business days to process.

A release of a Tax Lien, Judgement, or Assessment paid by credit card takes approximately 180 business days to process.
