Employment and Housing Laws Enacted during the 87th Legislature

As the regular session of the Texas Legislature ended on May 31st there were roughly about 1,400 bills that were enacted into law. Of those, four have a direct impact on the civil rights program with employment and housing matters. In employment, we had two bills (SB 45 and HB 21) that changed sexual harassment in the workplace and directly affect all employers and employees in the state. In housing, there were two bills (SB 581 and SB 30) with one about religious discrimination within HOA’s and the other allows for the removal of discriminatory statements and measures within deeds and titles that are against the Civil Rights Act.
